SARAJEVO, BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA (BosNewsLife)-- Christians are massively leaving post-war Bosnia-Herzegovina amid mounting discrimination and Islamization, according to a new report released Friday, October 12.

"Many believers leave the country since war raged 20 years ago," said Netherlands-based advocacy and aid group Kerk in Nood, or 'Church in Need', in the report obtained by BosNewsLife.

There are just 440,000 Catholics left in the Balkan nation, half the prewar figure, the group said.

The report came on the heels of talks between the cardinal of Sarajevo, Vinko Puljic, and European Council President Herman van Rompuy about difficulties faced by Bosnia's Christians.

MOSQUES BUILD

Puljic reportedly complained that while dozens of mosques were build in the Bosnian capital Sarajevo, no building permissions were given for Christian churches.

"The cardinal already waits 13 years on permission to build just a small church," Church in Need said. Authorities

Growing number of mosques in Sarajevo and other Bosnian towns.

so far refused to return hundreds of nationalized church buildings, despite a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights to do so, according to Christian officials.

Additionally tens of thousands of people, many of them Catholic Croats, have been prevented from returning home following the war, Church in Need said. These obstacles violate the Dayton peace accords that ended the 1992-1995 Bosnian War, which split the nation between a Serb republic and a Muslim-Croat federation.

"Time is running out as there is a worrisome rise in radicalism," Puljic said, who added that the people of Bosnia-Herzegovina were "persecuted for centuries" after European powers "failed to support them in their struggle against the Ottoman Empire."

SEEKING RECONCILIATION

Puljic has made clear however that despite the "discrimination" of the Catholic community, his denomination wants reconciliation with Muslims and Orthodox Serb Christians.

In published remarks, Van Rompuy made clear that giving Bosnia-Herzegovina a "European perspective", the code word for eventual European Union membership, "is the only way to overcome the crisis".

He said a condition for closer ties with the EU is building a democratic nation that respects human rights for all faiths and the rule of law, according to a statement distributed by Church in Need.

Last week's meeting with Van Rompuy and European legislators, organized by Church in Need, also included talks on reconciliation projects in the troubled Balkan nation where the wounds of recent history have not yet healed completely.

Over 100,000 people died and 2 million were displaced by the war that followed the breakup of Yugoslavia.

  1. JOSIP Says:

This article is very inaccurate in the portrait of the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. First of all i am from Bosnia and have lived there for most of my life. The article is one sided and does not show the true situation. The article does not mention that over 400 mosques were destroyed in the war by catholic Croats and orthodox christian Serbs. Over 95 percent of mosques that are being build now are repairs of the mosques that were destroyed during the war. There are almost no new constructed mosques in Bosnia. The Catholics complain that they don’t get permits to build new churches while Muslims are also having the same problem in regions where Catholics or orthodox Christians are in majority. When the article talks about the issues it should consider both sides. And the fact that Catholics are leaving the country is absurd too. Even though it is partial true ( they are leaving due to lack of work, not religious reasons), the author should have done his research and pointed out that more Muslims left and are leaving Bosnia. Millions of Bosnian Muslims left Bosnia in the last 100 years due to persecution and genocide committed by Croats catholic (ustashe) and orthodox christian Serbs (chetniks). This author need to better check his facts before he writes article like this. It is because of people like him who misprint(misunderstand) information or print propaganda that conflicts occur. The idea of islamization is absurd, and it is being used as propaganda tool to scare people who are unaware and uninformed. People in Bosnia have been Muslim for over 400 years and are very liberal.

This article is really a nonsense and full of fake and uncorroborated allegations. I, as a Muslim and whose family consists of almost 20% Croats, 30% of Serbs and 50% of Muslims, who also was expelled from my hometown, had to come to Sarajevo. The allegation : “Additionally tens of thousands of people, many of them Catholic Croats, have been prevented from returning home following the war, Church in Need said.“ does not mention why. Serb government does not allow them to return to Republic of Srpska, not to the Federation BiH, the same is with the Muslims in Republic of Srpsak. It is true that the Croats leaving Bosnia, but so do the Muslims. The reason is unemployment, almost 65% of the young people are without jobs and prospects to get it.
I agree that there is an unnecessarily growing number of of mosques, however, I do not know for any case of “ Authorities so far refused to return hundreds of nationalized church buildings..“. If this is a true then it is also true that ther same happens with the Muslims nationalized buildings.

The title “Christians Flee Bosnia Amid Discrimination and Islamization“ is really a shameful and untrue and almost warmongering.

From the comments, it appear that your article really inflamed the radical Islamist elements within BiH. They do not appear to be at all tolerant of other viewpoints. It is best to keep talking, while you still can.

  6. Reality Says:

Josip and Hasan – two Muslims. Anyone wanting to know the truth about Islam start doing some research on the internet. The stories that are SAID to be fanatical and against Islam – meaning they are called Islamophobes are the CORRECT accounts. There is no “reconciling” with Muslims. They have one goal and that is to make every NON-Muslim SUBMIT to them. Islam means submission. Do the research for yourself, don’t even take my word for it – do it yourself. One of the requirements of Islam is to LIE about any and everything, whatever it takes, to sneak and take over all “infidels” – meaning every non-Muslim. This is no longer a “joke” – it’s time for people to wake up and see them for what they are – terrorists. It is ingrained in them and pounded into their heads from the womb. Do not believe their lies. Islam = Terrorism. Period.

  7. Stefan J. Bos Says:

    Dear Reality,

Just a reality check here. We would not say that all Muslims are radicals or terrorists; In fact thousands of Muslims suffered during the Bosnian War and many innocent people were killed. I think the point of the article is that minority Christians have expressed concerns in general about the impact of Islamization on their lives and the authorities’ perceived refusal to help them.

  8. Adam Says:

I served in Bos in 97. We saw Muslim radicals start to show up in the region from foreign lands and spread a message of hate and extremism to the young. We knew of training camps way outside of Banja Luka that had known members of Hezbollah and other unsavory groups there but turned our heads. We never really believed the Bos Muslims would accept it. I have no idea how the region can ever heal after the centuries of conflict but I truly hope you find peace. Islam has proven not to be a religion that can peacefully live side by side with none believers. It is a perverted cult like tumor that threatens freedom and liberty to all mankind. I have a feeling the US and the useless joke called NATO will be back there one day.

  9. HASAN R. Says:

For Reality – You refer to you knowledge of Islam from Internet. That speaks enough about you. No religion can be interpreted from a tittle-tattle. It would be better you to read any book on Islam written by a Western scientist not by a Christian Serb, as they have their father of nationalism, Dobrica Ćosić, who says “ “We lie to deceive ourselves, to console others, we lie for mercy, we lie to fight fear, to encourage ourselves, to hide our misery and somebody else’s.” Citation from the novel trilogy Divisions (Deobe)

Otherwise, the article concerns with Catholics Croat who are prevented to return to their homes in Bosnia by Christian Serbs.

  10. Tom K. Says:

@Reality: where were you when Serbian Christians heads were being cut off by 10,000’s of Pakistani, Iranian and Saudi Arabian Mujahadeen terrorists fighting for an Islamic Bosnia.

Where you @BOSNEWSLIFE when Serbian Christians stood up to a Islamic Republic and fought for freedom from Islamic Sharia Law. None of you were there you are all 20 years late, Serbs knew this and fought against your governments Netherlands and all of Europe and the US to NEVER AGAIN live under Islamic rule.

Do you guys realize that Serbian Christians were ENSLAVED to ISLAM for 500 years, 500 years Turks, and the Bosniaks and Albanian converts from Christianity to Islam – raped, murdered, oppressed, taxed and persecuted Serbian Christians.
You Croats fought with the Muslims and killed and murdered so many Orthodox Serbs – now go cry somewhere else. You made your bed with them to kill Serbs, now live with it.

I want to see if this comment is published – my guess is BOSNEWSLIFE is just like every other cowardly European outlet – they FEAR to their bone marrow Islam and for that reason there is NO SUCH THING as FREE SPEECH in your countries.

  11. Stefan Bos Says:

    Dear Tom K.,

I was actually in Bosnia during the war, as well as all other now former Yugoslav republics. Your memory seems somewhat selective however. I also recall the Srebrenica massacre by Bosnian Serb forces of some 8,000 Muslim men and boys and other atrocities. If that’s what you call “standing up against Islamic Republic” and fighting “for freedom from Islamic Sharia Law” we are rather not part of that. It also doesn’t seem to be a Christian way. The Bible promises Christians persecution, but you seem to talk more about religious Christianity. Oh, and as you see, we published your comment…

I did not believe much in Mary appearing at Medgugorje until I read the history of Bosnia, of Serbia…of how the Muslim invasion came….impaled Serbian resistance on stakes…that entered into their mouths and out their abdominal areas…….

Islam entered Bosnia through war and slaughter. Such a means of entrance causes scars that can never be healed.

I pray that all turn to the Blessed Mother as through she peace and mutual recognition can some day be achieved.

Well Croatia got in bed with the Islamists and were fine with it when they were both decapitating Serbian farmers and POWs.
Here’s an example of their joint work:

The decapitated head of Bosnian Serb farmer Pero Makic, who was executed by Bosnian Muslim/Croat forces in the northeastern Bosnian city of Brcko on June 22, 1992. His head was placed on a pitch-fork and a cigarette was placed in his mouth. One of the forks of the pitch-fork was stabbed in his eye. This is a photo that was censored and suppressed in the West and the US.

  19. me Says:

Compared to the pre war situation over a MILION Bosniaks left the country too! The majority of the 100.000 dead were Bosniak/Muslim!

This article is a exaggerated and the fact are reshaped. It’s a case of blame it on the muslim. This is the real situation: The Church WILL GET A PERMIT to build if they buy the land from the city on which they want to build (read the real newspapers, not this onesided blog). The city doesn’t want to give it for FREE. I’ll explain further in the text why that probably is…the Bosnian politicians don’t give anything out for free! But then again, most cities would want to sell instead of give away.

It is nonsense that the city won’t allow a church! For Heaven’s sake, WE HAVE A NEWLY BUILT Catholic CHURCH in Sarajevo, actually just near that mosque on the picture above. Churches are built every day across the country.

A new one is ALWAYS WELCOME as for the people of Sarajevo goes. Most of Sarajevians are not radicals or influenced by the new Arab groups and sects. When the other sides were destroying mosques the people of Sarajevo protected their churches, because Sarajevians, of every religion love all of their religious buildings and consider them a part of them.

I’ll give you an example of what Josip is trying to explain but some of you do not wanna listen; Look at how many problems the Bosniaks are having with trying to rebuild a before the war existing mosque (a few centuries old) in Livno (demolished in the war by Croats)….the Livno Croats are not letting them, not giving out permits for a building that already existed. I doubt the mosques that were also centuries old in Banja Luka or Foca are rebuilt yet either! But you onesided bloggers (not jounalists obviously) are pinning all the problems in BiH on the Bosniaks. Josip is right, but I know you don’t wanna hear it.

Lots of churches are built in Bosnia, mainly in Croat or Serb majority areas, but mosques are refused there…BTW, I think it’s logical to build more of one kind of church where you expect or hope people will come to the church.

No one of regular Bosniaks likes the radicals. Look it up in the news who had the most problems with the radical groups, yes the Bosnian muslims! It’s true that previously in Bosnia not known islamic groups/sects are emerging, as everywhere in Europe. They are trying to winn souls. Small groups of people follow them, mainly because they get paid. Even a few Serbs from Serbia came to BiH and radicalized. But it is absurd to accuse all Bosniaks of radicalizing. Most of them do not like or want the radicals in BiH! They are a threat to the Bosniak free way of living aswell.
OMG you folks must have never been in Sarajevo. Yes, there are more muslims ”by look” (headscarfs) than before the war, but to me the city, the people and the (night)life are screaming atheism/secularsm or any other -ism but radicalism. The Radicals here are the black sheep, with not getting jobs, being avoided by the neighbours and so on.

This is the city where muslims enrole their kids in catholic schools, where muslims go to the mass on Chrismas eve, where the oh so ”radical” muslims are celebrating Bayram with Bayram parties and alcohol…..we are definitely not talking about the same town. I can without fear talk and critisize the religion here…people do not wanna hurt me because of that…normal religious folks (those with headscarfs) respect my opinion and I respect them, the others aren’t really into the religion to be able to discuss sore points of it.
As for the many mosques…yes, LOTS of new ones were built last decade or so. Not so much by the will of the people but more by the will of the greedy politicians…Arabs come and donate money to have a mosque built in their name (is a good deed in Islam), the Bosnian politicians take the money, put an amount in their own foreign bankaccounts and build a mosque with the rest of the money. One mosque was built in my neighbourhood…most of the year it’s empty! Locals (muslims) from the surrounding flats were trying to stop the building because they knew it wasn’t necessary but it didn’t help because of the stupid and greedy politicians.

I, as all the people of Sarajevo, trust Vinko Puljic and his word. I doubt he used the word ”discrimination” to describe the Bosniaks or stigmatized the Bosniaks like the bloggers here do. The government is an other thing, they discriminate all citizen, they will only indulge you if you pay up.

I am sure the politicians are unwilling, they tend to resist everything where they don’t profit from, but that doesn’t mean the people are or that the reason is religion. As I said we do have a newly built Catholic church, so that doesn’t mean Sarajevo resists Chatholics. Believe me, if the Zupa buys the land or who knows, if a Dutch rich dude (btw the Kerk in Nood isn’t really objective, they, just like the Arabs want to preserve their religion in a certain community) wants to give money for a church to be built and the politicians can put a few milions in their own pockets I’m sure he would get a permit yesterday!
Why does BiH have half the number of Croats compared to the number before the war?? Well the main reason is war! They have, just as Bosniaks with Croatian passports or other Bosnian diaspora, better alternatives! They can stay in the countries thet fled to in the ’90ies. Most of them are in Croatia, where life is better. They don’t wanna come back. I have relatives who are not comming back besides to visit. Bosniaks and Serbs from the diaspora aren’t comming back either!
The most fled Bosnian Croats are from Posavina (Derventa, Modrica, Bos. Brod, Bosanski Samac) and Krajina (B.Luka), those areas are almost clean from Croats (and Bosniaks too btw), even thou the Croats were the majority…those areas are in Republika Srpska so can’t blame the ”muslims” for this.
As someone pointed out, a lot of Bosniaks and Serbs are now still leaving the country as well, eagerly.

Another example of what Josip said and what this article from the KinN neglects is that all the groups act equally wrong in places where they’re in majority! Bosniaks from Hercegovina are leaving more and more every day because of the situation Josip described, the one parties overhand! The Serbs are not comming back to Mostar. The Bosniaks and Croats stay away from their former homes in RS.
By example, today more Bosniak are leaving Mostar than Croats Sarajevo. Croats from Sarajevo still have their apartments in the city and live often in the villages around the city but work in the city…again, I have some familymembers from Kiseljak so I know lots of examples. In Mostar other Croats are settling from other towns and villages, that makes Bosniaks move. Some could say they’re discriminated aswell.

It’s like that everywhere in BiH. Before the war the situation was similar in most villages and small towns in BiH, in Croatia (where Serbs also used to live) and in Sandzak and Kosovo…the people were segregated. The Orhodox lived in one village, the muslims a villege further, and the catholics another village down the road…I think that’s not going to change as long as we have religion. When we forget about the former disputes (like in Holland the protestants and the catholics now, after segregation, live happily together in non-religion) and who was who, and who sold out their former religion and brothers 5 centuries ago and start living in the NOW, we’ll be able to have a normal country. But till then….

I know of Christians in Mostar who were pushed out of their homes by the armed youth allied with Muslim foreignors. They could not return to their homes in 1995. Their homes were given to their Muslim neighbours.

I had been to Mostar and I saw the conditions there.

Possibly the ‘clensing’ will continue until the population of Christians there is very small and will not be a threat to the region being and remainging another Islamic state, like Lebanon, Albania etc.

  26. Mike Says:

I love reading the responses here written by “Bosnians” who are supposedly tolerant and impartial. Yet use capital letters for the word Bosnian and lower case letters for the words Catholic, Orthodox,Croat etc. This is a subtle hint at what they truly believe. Look folks the Bosnian Civil war was ugly. I call it a civil war because that is what it was 3 indigenous groups of people fighting to sort it out. There were no winners. the so called Bosniaks will have you think that they were invaded by Serbia while ignoring the FACT that over 1 million Serbs have lives there long before Islam took root. All three groups have blood on their hands. This narritive we have in the west of “Bosnian victims” and Serb aggressors is false. But we Americans could not wait to see a situation like this develop so that we can jump on the Muslim bandwagon and show the Muslim world how we care about Muslims and take their side over other Christians blah, blah! Not that it made a difference they still hate us.

  27. Mikey Says:

The sad fact remains that Bosnia both during the war and especially today, has been ruled by a dominant Islamic radical faction. The Late Muslim leader Alija Izetbegovic, who brought war to this land, was a radical Muslim. The Serbs have their own entity, which they fought for. As a result, they have no issues with Dayton and are not controlled by the Muslim majority. However the Croatian minority is and they legitimately feel threatened. That cannot be dismissed and must be discussed by all sides. The harsh reality is that Bosnia is nothing more than a mini-small Yugoslavia, which disintegrated.

Finally, for the writers here to say only Muslims suffered in WWII is absurd. They embraced Hitler’s Nazi ideology and formed the SS Handzar Division which reported to both Himmler and to their Mufti. Time to move on and accept that other ethnic groups in Bosnia also have rights to self determination in that land.

  28. Mikey Says:

One more comment: Read John R. Schindler’s book called “Unholy Terror: Bosnia, Al Qaida and the Rise of Global Jihad” 2007. Schindler is a professor at the US Naval War College.

It’s a startling analysis of just how deep the extremist Muslim element took over Bosnia before and during the war. Explains what the Serbs fought against and refused to accept.

Conquer your enemies with love! Call all Catholics to offer their rosaries for the conversion of our Muslim brothers and sisters. If our Lord Jesus is appearing to the Muslims in Africa in their dreams and prayers, there is no reason He cannot do so in your country. Now, in Africa, more tribes and muslims are converting to Christianity. Remember Jesus died for us all and wants to save everyone in these endtimes. To live is for Christ; to die is for Christ!

  34. Scott Says:

Yes, Muslims are indeed peaceful until they become the majority. Consider the Quran passages below.

2:120: “Never will the Jews nor the Christians be pleased with you till you follow their religion. Say: “Verily, Islâmic Guidance is the only Guidance. And if you were to follow their desires after what you have received of Knowledge, then you would have against Allâh neither any protector nor helper.”

3:56: “As to those who disbelieve, I will punish them with a severe torment in this world and in the Hereafter, and they will have no helpers.”

3:85: “And whoever seeks a religion other than Islâm, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers.”

3:118: “O you who believe! Take not as your helpers or friends those outside your religion since they will not fail to do their best to corrupt you. They desire to harm you severely. Hatred has already appeared from their mouths, but what their breasts conceal is far worse. Indeed We have made plain to you the verses if you understand.”

3:178: “And let not the disbelievers think that Our postponing of their punishment is good for them. We postpone the punishment only so that they may increase in sinfulness. And for them is a disgracing torment.”

5:14: “And from those who call themselves Christians, We took their covenant, but they have abandoned a good part of the Message that was sent to them. So We planted amongst them enmity and hatred till the Day of Resurrection, and Allâh will inform them of what they used to do.”

5:51: “O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as friends, they are but friends to one another. And if any amongst you takes them as friends, then surely he is one of them. Verily, Allâh guides not those people who are the wrong¬doers.”

5:73: “Surely, disbelievers are those who said: “Allâh is the third of the three (in a Trinity).” But there is no god but Allâh. And if they cease not from what they say, verily, a painful torment will befall the disbelievers among them.”

8:39: “And fight them until there is no more disbelief in Islam and the religion will all be for Allâh Alone…”

9:23: “O you who believe! Take not for supporters your fathers and your brothers if they prefer disbelief to Belief. And whoever of you does so, then he is one of the wrong-doers.”

9:29: “Fight against those who (1) believe not in Allâh, (2) nor in the Last Day, (3) nor forbid that which has been forbidden by Allâh and His Messenger (4) and those who acknowledge not Islam as the religion of truth among the people of the Scripture, until they pay the Jizyah [religious tax] with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.”

9:34: “O you who believe! Verily, there are many of the Jewish rabbis and the Christian monks who devour the wealth of mankind in falsehood, and hinder men from the Way of Allâh. And those who hoard up gold and silver, and spend it not in the Way of Allâh — announce unto them a painful torment.”

9:123: “O you who believe! Fight those of the disbelievers who are close to you, and let them find harshness in you, and know that Allâh is with those who are the pious.”

Quran, 9:29: “Fight against those who (1) believe not in Allâh, (2) nor in the Last Day, (3) nor forbid that which has been forbidden by Allâh and His Messenger (4) and those who acknowledge not Islam as the religion of truth among the people of the Scripture, until they pay the Jizyah [religious tax] with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.”.

  36. sootys mum Says:

Any country with a Muslim majority no longer allows non-Muslims to live or pray in peace. Look at Indonesia where the moderate president was removed and immediately Christians suffered. Look at Sudan where they attempted genocide to prevent South Sudan. All of the Muslim controlled countries in the Middle East have forced all of the Jews out (other than a few left in Iran) and they are now refugees, around 1 million. They are now murdering Coptic Christians and raping little girls to force them to convert. They have some 20 million slaves! There are also 100s of thousands of Christians fleeing from places like Syria and Egypt.

Look at Africa where churches are burnt and Christians murdered. Look at N Mali where they Christians are suffering since the invasion. Then look at the countries in the West who have taken in millions of Muslims, 50 million of whom are parasites on welfare, refusing to become part of the community. In both Sweden and Norway the police have stated that almost all rapes are committed by Muslims.

Of course not all Muslims commit these crimes/abuses but these crimes/abuses are all being committed by Muslims!

It should be pointed out that many “missing” have been found alive and well after the war – sometimes even living in their own home and working their same job, but yet they are on those “missing” lists.
The Bosnian Muslim government has given relatives the run-around and implied people are dead, yet through accidental discovery or independent searches they are found alive.

Plus you left out that most of the dead Bosnian Muslims are MILITARY. The Bosnian Muslims had the largest military, by far within Bosnia – 200,000.

The Bosnian Muslim forces were around 5 times greater than the Bosnian Serbs. Also, Croatia sent in 40,000 from Croatia who were stationed there throughout the war.

As for Srebrenica and the author here claiming he was “there” – well did he witness the 8,000 deaths? Because the Dutch soldiers didn’t see any of this – instead they saw Muslims leaving from the north (many armed with new U.S. made anti-tank weapons) before the Serbs even came to Srebrenica.

Do you even know that there was a Muslim Brigade – the 28th – stationed in Srebrenica which was larger than the surrounding Serb forces? And that this Brigade was ordered to walk out the evening before?

Srebrenica ONLY fell because it was arranged – the Muslim army was ORDERED to desert the city.

And investigators search in Serbs villages around Srebrenica (they didn’t find the bodies within the city) where the 28th Brigade launched attacks since 1992 to find bodies.

At the ICTY, there are no official autopsy results used in the prosecution. The ID center in Tuzla isn’t internationally certified even because they are too secretive to allow an inspection or open their records – THIS MEANS THEY ARE FREE TO MANIPULATE AND DESTROY EVIDENCE.
And without actual autopsy reports they can claim many battle deaths as being “execution deaths”.
There were many miles of Serbian territory between Srebrenica and Tuzla/other Muslim-held territory. There were running battles as the thousands of Muslim troops and able-bodied men marched through the Serbian towns and territory. The Serbs there were most likely very alarmed and scared when they noticed all these large groups of men/soldiers walking through the wooded areas.

Also, it’s been shown that Srebrenica Muslims who died in the fighting in 1992-1994 have been claimed as being victims of the fall in July 1995. They also use the deaths of Muslim military from Zepa, which was another town just south of Srebrenica where the Muslims had forces stationed.

So, they do cheat to boost up the numbers of dead and they do include A LOT of battle deaths. The west is biased and even promotes this cheating, lies and exaggeration as Srebrenica is used for the demonisation of Serbs, the justification of western meddling and policy in the Balkans, and to do future “preventative” attacks all over the world.

In Srebrenica, the Muslim commander Naser Oric, was visited by western journalists in January 1994. He showed videos that he and his men had taken of his “deeds” in Serb villages all around.

The Srebrenica Muslims were carrying out a SCORCHED EARTH policy over the Serbs – they destroyed SCORES of Serbian villages already by the end of the summer 1992.
In his videos the western journalists, John Pomfret of the Washington Post, and Bill Schiller of the Toronto Star, saw scenes of dead Serb men – some killed by explosives in one place (and Naser would describe what would happen, proud and bragging), others killed by “cold weapons” (knives, hammers, axes, etc.), and a scene of decapitated Serb soldiers their bodies in a “pathetic heap” wrote Pomfret. Bill Schiller said the Muslims would celebrate with “warbling sounds” after the villages had been burnt down and the people had fled or been killed.

The Srebrenica Muslims were NOT innocent, they killed thousands of Serbs around the area in the most brutal fashion, they destroyed Serb villages which still to this day are deserted, they killed Serbs cattle and livestock – preventing them from earning a living, and chased many more thousands out of the area in a terror-driven ethnic cleansing.

During the arranged fall, the UN had already, since a week before, ORDERED the women and children to Potocari. When Serbs arrived, without any real resistance – the army had left and already cleared the city limits, they found all the women, children, elderly and even some younger men already gathered and separated by the UN.

The UN ORDERED the Serbs to drive them to Tuzla airport. The Serbs sent CIVILIAN bus drivers which were escorted by the UN. And the people arrived there with no injuries. There is no footage of people arriving injured – quite different than the Serbs of Operation Storm who were arriving at Banja Luka hospital with all kinds of serious injuries (they’d been stoned and shot at by the Croats as they left.)

My experience with many Bosnian Muslim refugees here in Seattle is that they are tolerant and open-minded I tend to believe Hasan’s statement even though I feel that most of the Muslim World is intolerant. What is usually the case is not always the case. Bosnian refugees here are not uncommonly married to Croats and even Serbs. They have many non Muslim friends. The way forward for Bosnia is secular democracy, keeping Wahabist elements out and a candid portrayal of who did most of the killing during the genocide.

After decades of having negative feelings about Islam which were heightened by the fatwa on Rushdie, I had to conclude from the overwhelming weight of proof that the primary killers in Bosnia’s civil war were Serbs followed by Croats and that most of the war crimes committed on the Muslim side were by the mujahedeen that Bosnia never should have needed in the first place.

Well others who’ve worked with Bosnian Muslims have different opinions. One man had a close college friend held down and brutally raped by a Bosnian Muslim. If memory serves me, this is his page on Free Republic, http://www.freerepublic.com/~clemenza/ , and his nick is “Clemenza”. If you doubt me you can sign up there and ask him by private mail. Though he’d probably be surprised as it was something he mentioned some years ago.

Others have a term “BosMos truth” to describe them after many people learned their stories were lies and how loose they are with the truty.

Also, the mixed families tend to be the most tolerant, but many of those mixed families left because the Bosnian Muslim government was not tolerant of these people.

You likely came across a more moderate group, but there have been many criminal settled here and some have even killed Americans.

Suleman Hamway, the Bosnian Muslim teen, for example killed several at a Utah mall in February 2007.

A woman who worked with Bosnian Muslims said there were some who threatened her and her daughter when they took goods to other people (including non-Balkan refugees).

By the way, I’ll bet virtually all your Bosnian Muslims are able bodies and show no signs of torture nor nutritional problems from food deprivation. Many actually sat out the war in Germany or some other country, then Germany made many of them leave and actually paid some thousands of dollars towards a house in the U.S.

Here’s a letter from a woman, to Julia Gorin, who had worked many years with thousands of Balkan refugees in the U.S. and she even had access to UN files.

    http://www.juliagorin.com/wordpress/?p=2378

    Julia,

I went with my son who pushed me in the wheelchair I have to use right now… to the fireworks display on the 4th. As we approached the BEST viewing area, I saw a Serbian man from Bosnia. A single fellow who is now about 29 years old. I had helped him and his friend get an apartment and jobs back in 1998 when they came to our city. I bought them food and toiletries. I took them to church because they wanted to light candles for their dead families back in Bosnia.

This young man was captured back in early 1990s by the Bosnian muslims and tortured, starved and had all his teeth knocked out. He has scars and had to have several operations on his feet when he got here because all the bones that the Bosnians broke in feet never healed well. HE WAS NOT a soldier at the time. He was a teenager taken prisoner from a small Serb village. His family was murdered. He has never married. He is bald like an OLD man. He looks 45.

Nancy also posted a comment under my Atlas Shrugs piece yesterday. Here is the relevant part:

I KNOW THOUSANDS displaced people from the Balkans. I was a resettlement worker for several NGO/agencies here in the USA and Europe at the time. The Serbs were the worst-treated people in regard to this war. I came to respect them and loathe the…selfish Bosnian muslims I had to assist. The Croats I helped were ALL married to Serbs and were tossed out of Croatia along with their Serb Spouses…

The BIGGEST group of ETHNICALLY CLEANSED in all the BALKANS people WERE SERB CHRISTIANS!
    _______

So what I ask, John Coelho, did you ever see any one of those Muslim refugees with all his teeth beat out of him? Did you ever see one of them who had the bones all broken in his feet and not heal right from the torture and needing continual surgeries?

This woman who wrote Julia Gorin witnessed a whole bunch and it was the SERBS who showed signs of torture and needed surgery for this.
The tortures were carried out by the Bosnian Muslims, not the Mujahideen. The tape this woman saw of imprisoned Serbs being beheaded was seen at a Bosnian Muslim’s home in the U.S. with her husband – and in front of his three kids! After that she vowed to never go back.
She knew a petite Serbian woman with bullets still in her body who had survived a massacre, she knew a Bosnian Serb man with his face all beat in due to the torture of the Bosnian Muslims there.

MEANWHILE THESE BOSNIAN MUSLIMS SHOW NO SIGNS OF TORTURE. I ask and note everyone in the U.S. who knows of them.

  41. Stefan Bos Says:

    Dear JJ,

Does the Srebrenica massacre of some 8,000 Muslim men and boys rings a bell? Or was that in your opinion also a nonsense story. We know however that devoted Christians have suffered on all sides, especially those who did not want to be part of nationalism. Often churches and Christianity are used as a religion in this region, while real Christianity has nothing to do with religion and church institutions.

    Best regards,

    Stefan J. Bos, BosNewsLife.

  42. John Coelho Says:

I have never denied that there have been human rights abuses coming from Bosnian Muslims, especially the more criminally inclined and abuses from any quarter have to be condemned, but according to CIA analysis, the vast majority of killing came from Serbian nationalists. I would like to point out that Serbs, like Russians in the Soviet Union and Hans in China were “more equal” and played a dominant role in socialist Yugoslavia.

Slovenia, Macedonia and Croatia all split off from Yugoslavia to escape discrimination and for nationalist reasons. Personally, I would have preferred Yugoslavia to hold together on more egalitarian terms.

Never the less, the Bosnian departure from Yugoslavia was of a piece with the other departures, not extraoridinary and part of an attempt to impose sharia on anyone.

Izetbegovic had Serbs in his cabinet, a Serb general and ran for office as part of a coalition that included a Serb party. A few thousand Serbs stayed in Bosnian government territory during the war. A few even joined the Bosnian army.

A woman I know, half Serb and half Croat, was protected by a Bosnian government security detachment stationed outside her apartment from backward Muslims who might harm her.

I remember well, watching Izetbegovic appealing to Serbs and Croats to support his government during the onslaught of Serb aggression.

Srpska is almost 100 % ethnically cleansed to this day.

The antisemitism that pervades most of the Muslim World just hasn’t been a big factor, traditionally in the Balkans. Bosnia’s ambassador the US during the war was a Jew, Albania has friendly relations with Israel. Albanians hid more Jews from Nazi occupiers than any other European group.

With the unfortunate ingress of Wahabist influence, now, that is probably weaker.

The best basis for healing the wounds of Bosnia is to elevate human rights
    sensitivity above sectarianism.
