Some 600,000 Hungarian Jews died in the Holocaust.

BUDAPEST, HUNGARY (BosNewsLife)– A middle-aged man is Hungary’s first person to be sentenced for Holocaust denial, Hungarian media reported Thursday, January 31.

Upholding an earlier ruling, a Budapest appeals court handed out an 18-month prison term, suspended for three years.

The 42-year old György Nagy, who was placed under supervision, attended a demonstration on October 23, 2011, holding a Hebrew banner with the text: “The Holocaust did not happen”.

He must therefore visit Budapest’s Holocaust Memorial Center at least three times and describe his experiences, the court ruled.

DEATH CAMP

Alternatively, the unemployed computer technician may visit the former Nazi death-camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in southern Poland or the Yad Vashem memorial center in Jerusalem, Israel.

He is also banned from attending demonstrations and other political events, Hungarian media said.

Denial of genocides committed by the Nazi’s was declared a crime by Hungary’s Parliament in February 2010.

At least 600,000 Hungarian Jews died during World War Two, when Hungary was a close ally of Nazi-Germany.

COMMUNIST CRIMES

Under Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, the legislation expanded to include denying crimes against humanity during the Communist-era.

Critics have questioned whether the Holocaust, which saw the killings of 6 million Jews and others the Nazis didn’t like, should be compared to Communist crimes.

Orbán has also been accused of fueling anti-Semitism amid new tributes and statues to Hungary’s wartime leader Miklós Horthy, an ally of Adolf Hitler, and the rehabilitation of some anti-Semitic writers.

Last year, Nobel peace laureate and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel returned Hungary’s highest state honour because of what he called a “whitewashing” of history in the European Union member state.

EXTREMISM CONCERNS

Hungary’s center right government has come under pressure to tackle extremism, following the vandalism of Holocaust monuments and Jewish graveyards as well as threats against Jewish people.

Legislator Marton Gyöngyösi, of the far-right Jobbik party, suggested drawing up lists of Jews who could pose “a national security risk.”

The remarks prompted international protests and a demonstration in Budapest.

Though most Jews were killed, or fled after World War Two, there are still some 100,000 Jewish people living in Hungary, according to official estimates.

  1. Legislator Marton Gyöngyösi, of the far-right Jobbik party, suggested drawing up lists of Jews who could pose “a national security risk.”

To be exact, he wanted to know the israel-hungarian dual citizenship of PMs. It happened during a debate about the palestine-israel conflict.

To be fair, the Israeli parlament wants its members to forfeit second citizenship for its members who have dual citizenship

  2. Dear MyName,

It’s not as simple as you suggest. Marton Gyöngyösi said: “I know how many people with Hungarian ancestry live in Israel, and how many Israeli Jews live in Hungary.” He added: “I think such a conflict makes it timely to tally up people of Jewish ancestry who live here, especially in the Hungarian Parliament and the Hungarian government, who, indeed, pose a national security risk to Hungary.”

He mentioned Jewish ancestry, which for obvious reasons raises alarm bells, especially but not limited to, Holocaust survivors. Critics argue that the conflict in Gaza was misused to once again make anti-Semitic remarks.

  3. Well, it didn’t happen! If every person in a country, in Europe, in the West, would stand up TOGETHER, and pronounce this, the Feds wouldn’t be able to take down anybody.

We all saw how it worked in the Wall Street Protests. The cops would bring down individuals, while the rest of the crowd just stood there, not doing anything to help each other. If the people would have surrounded the cops, and prevented them from taking each person, the Protesters would have prevailed. But the crowd just let the arrests happen.

But everybody is afraid, quaking in their shoes. It’s true Fear is the Enemy.

But you know,WHO rules the West. The Chosenites!

  4. Making lists of the ethnicity of folk, created a nightmare in Netherlands, didn’t the nazis use Dutch Govt data to find/round up people of Jewish descent for transportation to labour/death camps?

I have noticed that in an increasing number of countries it is now *illegal* to question any aspects of the Holocaust! :-O

Since *when* did the truth needs laws to prevent it’s being questioned?

Is it illegal to investigate aspects of the Napoleonic wars?

    The Crusades?

I wonder why this *particular* piece of history needs laws to stop people wanting to make sure history is factual (many errors in historical text books have been found and fixed by re-examining the facts?

Why would anyone want to stop study, or asking pertinent questions?

Why would anyone jail someone for stating something false when all that is required is proof of the facts, and ridicule of the liar provides all the “punishment” needed (it also removes all credibility from those that seek to tell lies about the facts)

If a person stated that Napoleon was a transvestite, and had secret detention camps in Malta where they dropped people from 100M high towers (just as an example to illustrate my point)…

It is easy to review the historical records and where there is error or a lack of knowledge, such as the lack of archeological proof for the existence of said secret detention camps/towers, research can be done to establish the *facts* rather than give *any* credence to lies/distortions

I worry that something may be *seriously* amiss with the way “justice” (and truth) seem to be going

    Double-plus ungood citizen 😉

  5. “Critics have questioned whether the Holocaust, which saw the killings of 6 million Jews and others the Nazis didn’t like, should be compared to Communist crimes” which saw the killing of over 60 million Russian Christians by Bolshevik Jews.

The same “critics” agree with official reduction of deaths at Auschwitz alone from 4 million to under 1 million but insist that Jewish mathematics make it illegal to reduce the 6 million number accordingly.

  6. The ‘Six Million’ number is all part of the religious, Jewish fanaticism, these Khazars are psychopaths. What kind of truth needs laws to protect it?

  7. Dear Alex,

I don’t know which critics agree with the reduction of deaths at Auschwitz, unless ofcourse you agree with Xylo’s argument that they are “part of the religious, Jewish fanaticism, these Khazars are psychopaths.” BosNewslife obviously strongly disagrees, but publishes the comments to show the deep hatred towards the Jewish people.

  8. Dear ‘Name’,

I am sure that the Nazi’s used lists of the ethnicity of folk, creating a nightmare in the Netherlands. Yes they used government data, after the Netherlands was occupied. It was also the reason why Dutch resistance blew up such centers. But that was not the theme of this story. Same thing for the crusades and other themes mentioned. I think there is nothing wrong to investigate the Holocaust; Denying the Holocaust is according to the Hungarian courts, another issue.

    Best regards,
